Masterclass on Minimum Viable Community

Hey, Bettermode community 👋

This one is for those getting started with their community journey.

Tip: Mo's presentation starts at 03:51!

Tribe’s co-founder, Mo Malayeri, sat down with The Community Club to talk about Minimum Viable Community (MVC).

MVC is the early version of your community that you create to validate your idea and ensure you are solving a critical problem with the community. MVC helps you gain insights from the early feedback, measure community health metrics, and ultimately move towards a successful community.

In this webinar, Mo shared a framework you can use to build your MVC and some of the best ways to measure its success.

Key takeaways from the talk:

  • All MVCs need five components: members, content, structure, UX, and design.

  • You should build out lean versions of each component simultaneously, rather than focusing on getting each one perfectly.

  • Start to measure the data you collect as soon as your community is up and running. Turn this into learning you can use to improve your community rapidly. We share the framework we use at 18:36.

  • Focus on doing things that don’t scale but bring immense value—for example, connecting members with other members and solving their issues.

  • Don’t focus on optimization and automation since they won’t impact your community much during the MVC stage.

Is there anything you would like to add to this for people starting a community? Share in the comments below!
