This is pretty standard fare, so I'm not sure what design decisions were made around this that led to not having a sticky sidebar admin panel, but it literally took me five minutes to figure out how to access the admin functionality since I naturally expected there to be a lefthand menu available whenever I'm logged in as an admin/moderator.
