Audit and Email Logs

Released on 9th March 2022

We are announcing the release of two new features that will help admins with reporting, compliance, risk management, and security. And the new features are:

  • Audit log: Simply put, an audit log is a log of who does what. There are three types of filters admins can apply to view the logs of activities:

    • Actor - Narrow down to see the logs for a specific community member

    • Spaces - See various logs for a specific Space

    • Action type - Select the log related to App, Collection, Post, Member, Space, and more

  • Email log: Similar to the audit log, the email log shows the complete list of all the emails generated from the community and their status. Here are the filters you can use:

    • Recipient - Search by email address

    • Email type - Select the type such as verification, confirmation, invitation, notification, password reset.

    • Email status - Select the status of the email such as sending, deferred, delivered, sent, bounced.

The audit log is available to Bettermode’s customers on the Enterprise plan and the email log is available to all the customers.

Use cases

Here are the top use cases to help you get started:

  • Activity log: Find out who in your team updated community settings by filtering on ‘Community’ action type

  • Activity log: Use a combination ‘Actor’ filter and ‘Space’ filter to identify all the activities of a member inside the Space

  • Email log: If you have sent invitations to people to join the community and wondering about the status of the email, this can help you.

  • Email log: Identify the emails that have bounced to clean up your community.

In the future, Bettermode will enable admins to both send and receive various activities to and from third-party tools.

What’s Next?

We will release the ability for apps to introduce new events to the audit log. Imaging a Shopify app sending an event to your community when a member purchases an item in Shopify, or a Hubspot app sending a new event to your community when the status of your lead is changed!

We are also exploring the ability to add a column to the email logs to show you if your email is opened or a link in it was clicked.
