Whenever members sign up for a community, Bettermode creates standard profile fields such as Name, Email, and Tagline. However, communities have unique requirements and often these standard fields are not enough.
This video features our former brand, Tribe. Since then, Tribe has undergone a rebrand and is now known as Bettermode.
As a customizable community platform, Bettermode now enables community admins to create custom profile fields for the members. These additional custom profile fields help in member discovery, networking, and improve engagement.
Here are the options for you to create custom fields:
Suggested fields: these are the commonly used fields that we have collected after studying various online communities. They are ready-to-use and come with predefined validation, UI, and values. Website, Birthday, Country, Twitter profile, YouTube channel are some of the examples.
New fields: adding a new field means creating a custom field from scratch. You can select from a number of field types such as Rich text, Checkbox, Email, Textarea, and Date. After that, you can fully configure the field by giving it a name, specifying a unique identifier (key), placeholder, and helper text.
Admins can select if they want to show the profile field to only the admin, everyone, or both admin and profile owner. Custom profile fields can also be archived by admins.
❗Note: Advanced options like “Who can see this field” and “Who can update this field” are only available to Bettermode’s Premium and Enterprise customers.
Use cases
Create a custom field to see members’ subscription plan for additional context when engaging with the members. This can be only viewed by community admins.
Create a custom field to help members display their website, company name, location, social media profiles.
Create a URL custom field so you can add a link to the member’s profile in your CRM software. Only admins should be able to see this information.
Automatically filling the profile fields
Currently, Zapier integration can be used to automatically fill the profile fields. Soon we are going to release an improvement to add profile field information using API and Webhooks. We’ll also improve our SSO methods to automatically update the profile fields.
