Released on June 14th, 2022
We’re getting ready to release some of the most desired features. This week we’re starting with Badges! As you already know badges in online communities are effective for setting goals and motivating behaviors among community members. This makes them a powerful example of gamification.
This video features our former brand, Tribe. Since then, Tribe has undergone a rebrand and is now known as Bettermode.
Bettermode now allows admins to create badges as well as activate smart badges. Smart badges are the badges already built into the platform and they are automatically managed. Here are the two smart badges you can activate:
Welcome: This badge will be activated for new members for the first 14 days from the date of sign-up.
Role: This badge will show the role of the community admins and moderators.
Manually creating badges is also quite straightforward. Simply click on the “Add badge” button, add a description, and select the locations to display the badge. These badges can be text badges or images.

Here are 5 examples of badges you can create:
VIP Members: Reserved for some of your most active members who keep the community vibrant with their contributions.
Social Butterfly: This can be awarded to members who join more than 5 Spaces in your community.
Good Karma: For members who actively help peers, solve issues, and maintain the code of conduct.
Super Ideator: Can be awarded to members who come up with top-notch product feedback, ideas, and unique use cases.
Partner: Reserved for members who have a type of partnership with your business.
It is also possible to automate assigning and revoking badges since we have added the required Zapier actions. For instance, you can set a counter for the number of posts created by a member in a certain Space and assign them a badge.
Note that the keys to successfully implementing badges in a community are exclusivity and validity: the fewer community members have a badge, the more desirable it will be, but only if the community members understand and endorse the criteria for earning it.
Badges are available on all pricing plans.
What’s next?
In the future, Bettermode will enable you to bulk assign a badge based on the member segment you create using different filters. This can be taken a step further by building a workflow that will auto-assign a badge when members meet certain criteria.
