Managing default notification settings

Manage Email Notification Settings for the Site

Admins can manage the email notifications for the site by going to the Administration > Settings > Notifications.

As an admin, you can control the type of emails are sent to members. If you are planning to handle email notifications on your side, then you might want to disable outgoing emails from the site.

  • All notification emails - Members will receive all types of notifications including site-wide emails and essential emails.
đź’ˇ Site-wide notifications are: notifications that pertain to new activity based on the users' subscriptions. For example, they are subscribed to selected spaces, following posts, and/or subscribed to members.
‼️ Note: This setting does not mean members will get notifications for every new action or activity.

  • Only essential notifications: Members would only receive important notifications such as invitations, reset password, member exports (for Admins only).

  • Turn off all notifications: no emails from the site will be sent.

Subscribing to Space Notifications

Notifications play a crucial role in ensuring users return to your site to follow up on posts that pique their interest. As an essential feature for reengagement, it’s important that subscribing to notifications is simple and user-friendly. Depending on the users' account settings, they will have the option to subscribe to email notifications and/or in-app notifications. Bettermode also supports desktop notifications with the Chrome and Firefox browsers.

Auto-subscribe all existing and new space members to a space so that they are notified of new posts.

Users can subscribe to receive notifications about posts by clicking the bell icon in the space header of any space. Members can subscribe to receive notifications from a space without being a space member through the space header.

Alternatively, users can manage all their notification settings by clicking on their profile picture in the navbar, selecting Account Settings, and then navigating to Notifications.

Users can manage the following notification channels:

  • Email: Receive email updates to stay informed when you're not online. These can be turned off anytime.

  • Desktop Notifications: Get browser notifications in Chrome and Firefox. (Users need to enable browser notifications to manage their desktop notifications).

Notification types include:

  • Mentions: Receive notifications when you're mentioned in a post or comment. Toggle the following options to receive these notifications:

    • In-app notifications

    • Email notifications

  • Reactions: Be notified when posts you’ve created or are following receive reactions. Toggle the following options to receive these notifications:

    • In-app notifications

    • Email notifications

  • Direct Messages: Get notified about received direct messages via the following method:

    • Email notifications

  • Spaces: Click the bell icon next to spaces to receive notifications about new posts. Only spaces that the member is a space member of will appear in this list.

This streamlined process ensures that users can easily stay updated on activities and interactions that matter to them.

Following a post

Staying updated on specific posts is crucial for users who want to keep track of all activities and interactions. Users can easily follow a post by clicking the “Follow” button on any post.

Depending on their account notification settings, users will receive notifications about comments and reactions to the post, ensuring they stay informed. Note that reaction notifications are disabled by default.

To enable the follow button for users, ensure it is toggled on in the posts block settings for both the space and the CMS page. This can be done by navigating to the design studio, selecting the space, accessing the posts block settings, and under the fields section in the post action bar, making sure the “Follow” option is enabled.

Enabling desktop notifications

Users can receive desktop notifications on the Chrome and Firefox web browsers to keep updated with what’s happening on your site. By navigating to their account settings, users can enable Desktop notifications. Note that you’ll be prompted by the browser to allow notifications from Bettermode and without doing this, desktop notifications can’t be activated.
