Communities rely on compelling content to keep members interested in visiting your community regularly while also promoting brand loyalty. This wouldn’t be possible without post types. Post types provide you and your members with specific fields for different types of posts, so you can clearly define the content in your community in each space. Different post types are useful in different situations, and they define the composing of the post, and how you can reply and react to the posts themselves. You can also activate as many post types as you like in any space but remember that the posts block can only host one post type per view.
Post types can be activated and deactivated in the space settings.
Login with your admin account > navigate to the top header > click on your profile image > access the Administration.
Go to the Content section of the Administration and select the Spaces tab > find the Space to edit and click [...] > Settings. This takes you to the Space Setting page > Select the Post types tab > Toggle on or off post types by clicking on the toggle button.
There are 8 different post types (excluding custom post types):
Discussion
Question
Idea
Event
Article
Job
Product update
Changelog
Each post type has three options to configure (apart from the Job post type which has two):
”Who can post?” / “Who can comment?” / “Who can react” can all be configured with the 4 options below.
Everyone - anyone who is a community member can post regardless of whether they’ve joined a space
Space members, space admins, and staff - anyone who is a space member or admin/staff can post if they have joined the space.
Space admins and staff - only space admins/staff can post in a space.
Nobody - No one can post in a space regardless of community role.
The only exception is the job post type. You can configure “Who can post?” and “Who can react?”. This is because comments are not activated on this post type.
