Post types overview: Event, Article, Discussion, Question

Default Post Types

Bettermode offers four default post types, each designed for specific use cases in your community. This guide explains what each post type does and how to enable them.

How to Enable a Post Type

You must enable a post type in at least one space before members can use it. Choose one of these approaches:

  1. Create a new space with a template: Create a new space and select a space template that includes your desired post type by default.
  2. Add to an existing space: Go to the space Settings > CMS models > toggle on the post type(s) you want > click Update.

Post Type Overview

1. Event

Use events to announce and promote activities with specific dates, times, and locations. Members can:

  • View upcoming and past events in a space
  • RSVP to events that interest them
  • View event descriptions and images

Each event includes a title, date, time, location, description, and optional images. Members RSVP through the event interface within the community.

2. Article

Articles are ideal for long-form content such as blog posts, announcements, and detailed stories. Each article displays:

  • Cover image
  • Title
  • Description (first few lines visible in list view)

Members browse articles by reviewing the cover image and title, then can click to read the full content.

Note: You can customize tabs and filters at the top of each space through the Design Studio. Default tabs vary by space template and can be edited or removed.

3. Discussion

Discussions foster thread-based conversations where members share thoughts and ideas. Each discussion includes:

  • Title
  • Description (supports images, videos, and other media)

Unlike events and articles, discussions do not have a cover image.

4. Question

Questions enable members to ask the community for help or input. Each question includes a title and description.

Member capabilities:

  • Post questions with title and description
  • Select and mark a "Best Reply" (available for all post types)

Admin and moderator capabilities:

  • Assign questions to community staff
  • Mark questions as resolved

If you use the Question space template, the Unresolved and Latest tabs are available by default. Members can quickly see how many answers exist for each question.

Admins and moderators can access these options when editing any post:
