Bettermode Reports: Overview - Tracking Community Success

The Overview section within Bettermode's Reports provides site Admins with a high-level snapshot of key metrics essential for tracking the success and health of their site. This powerful feature is designed to give administrators insights into member engagement, activity trends, and user behavior, allowing them to make data-driven decisions to foster growth and participation.

How to Access Bettermode Reports: Overview

  1. Log in with your Admin account

  2. Navigate to the Administration > Reports

  3. Click on the Overview tab and select a timeframe on the top-right corner.

Key Features and Metrics in the Overview Section

  1. Custom Timeframe Selection Administrators can select a custom timeframe to analyze sitedata. Whether you want to see performance from the past week, month, or a specific custom range, this flexibility ensures that the insights are relevant to your specific needs and goals.

  2. Net New Members Easily track the number of net new members who joined the community within the selected timeframe. This metric helps measure community growth and the success of recruitment or marketing efforts.

Net new members = the change in them of new members (new members - deleted members)

Note: the arrows/numbers (either in green or red) beside certain data points is a comparison of the previous timeframe selected. In the image above, the ^0.80% indicates that there has been 0.80% growth in net new members compared to the previous 7 days (the selected timeframe).

  3. Active Members The number of active members within the selected timeframe is another crucial metric. This shows how many members have visited the site and have been actively participating in the community, giving admins a clear picture of engagement levels.

Active members = users who accessed the site and completed an action in the selected timeframe.

Note: If API and/or bulk-actions are performed, then this can inflate the active member count by marking the member as active even if they have not signed in within the selected timeframe.

Examples of actions that will mark a user as active includes:

    • A user logs in/access the site

    • The user performs an action (manual, api, bulk-action)

However, if an admin changes the author for a post to another member, this does not mark the new author as active.

  4. Total Page Views The total number of page views provides an overview of how much activity and content browsing has occurred across the community. This is a key metric to measure overall user interest and engagement with the platform.

Note: Page views are not unique. If a browser is refreshed or a page is loaded on another browser tab, this will count each page load as an individual page view.

  5. Real-time Users Online Bettermode analytics includes a real-time view of users who are currently online, broken down between:

    • Members: Active non-admin members currently browsing or interacting with the community.

    • Guests: Non-logged users or visitors viewing the community.

This metric offers an immediate sense of community activity at any given time.

Note: Guests are non-logged in users. If the site is private, you can still have guests visit the community. If a user tries to access a page on the site, they are counted as a guest until they are actually logged in. For example, if a user goes to the log in page or if they clicked on a link in a notification email but they are not signed in.

  6. New Activities In the selected timeframe, admins can see the number of new activities generated by users. These activities are further broken down into:

    • Posts: New content shared by members.

    • Replies: Responses to existing posts or discussions.

    • Reactions: Member engagement through likes, upvotes, or similar feedback mechanisms.

This granular view of activity types helps admins understand what kind of interaction is thriving and where there may be opportunities for improvement.

  7. Activity by Role In addition to tracking new activity, Bettermode provides an activity by role breakdown. You can see which new activities were performed by:

    • Admins: Community administrators.

    • Moderators: Users with moderation privileges.

    • Members: members and space-admins.

This allows admins to assess the balance of contributions across different roles and ensure that member engagement is the primary driver of activity.

  8. Unique Visits Admins can track unique visits daily, broken down by user type (members and guests). This metric shows the community’s reach and helps identify patterns of engagement over time.

Note: Guests are non-logged in users. If the site is private, you can still have guests visit the community. If a user tries to access a page on the site, they are counted as a guest until they are actually logged in.

For example, if a user goes to the log in page or if they clicked on a link in a notification email but they are not signed in.

  9. Top Members by Posts, Reactions, and Replies Bettermode highlights the top members within the selected timeframe. You can find the top 5 members based on the following categories:

    • The number of posts they’ve made.

    • The number of reactions they’ve received.

    • The number of replies they’ve contributed.

This feature is useful for identifying highly engaged members who contribute to the community’s vibrancy, which can help admins reward or spotlight top contributors.

  10. Top Spaces by Posts, Views, and Members Identify the top (fives) spaces within the selected timeframe by:

    • Number of posts.

    • Number of views.

    • Number of members participating.

This helps community admins pinpoint which spaces are the most active and popular, informing decisions about resource allocation or where to focus community-building efforts.

  11. Top Posts by Views, Reactions, and Replies Identify the top (five) posts within the selected timeframe, based on:

    • Views: How many users viewed the post.

    • Reactions: How many users engaged with the post through likes or other reactions.

    • Replies: How many users responded or engaged in discussion.

This feature allows admins to identify the most engaging content and understand what resonates most with their community.

Why the Analytics Overview Section is Essential

The Bettermode Reports Overview section equips admins with the tools they need to track community success from multiple perspectives. With detailed segmentation, customizable timeframes, and insights into various aspects of community activity (from posts to reactions and visits), admins can make informed decisions to optimize user engagement and community growth.

By providing real-time data and a breakdown of top users, spaces, and posts, the Overview section empowers community managers to recognize patterns, reward top contributors, and continuously improve the user experience.

FAQs:

Q: Can I export member analytics data?

A: Bettermode reports are currently not exportable. However, you can query the Reports data via API.

Q: How can I have a higher number of active members than my total members?

A: The reports counts the total number of active members within the selected timeframe based on active sessions and actions completed. If you had 1,000 members previously, but 80 members were deleted, the active members metrics will still count the deleted members as an active member.

Q: Why does my active members look so inflated?

A: Actions made on behalf of a member will mark the user as active. For example, if you performed a bulk-action on members, such as bulk-adding members to a space, this will mark the impacted users as active. The same goes for API as well.
